Delight

Today’s Reading: 1 Samuel 18:5-19:24, John 8:31-59, Psalm 112:1-10, Proverbs 15:12-14

Praise the Lord!

How joyful are those who fear the Lord
and delight in obeying his commands.

What does it mean to delight in obeying God’s commands? What is delight? When it is used as a verb, the Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines delight in this way:

to take great pleasure

Is this the same thing as wholehearted commitment? I think it is connected. According to Psalm 112, the promises that follow for someone who delights in obeying God are remarkable.

  • success for your children
  • blessing for many people (an entire generation)
  • wealth

Also in this Psalm, people who delight in obeying God’s commands also demonstrate other behaviors.

  • generosity
  • compassion
  • righteousness
  • confidence and lack of fear
  • influential and honored

I want to be like that.
