What was he thinking?

Today’s Reading: Song of Solomon 5:1-8:14, 2 Corinthians 9:1-15, Psalm 51:1-19, Proverbs 22:24-25

One thing that has always confused me about Song of Solomon is the game of hide and seek. She keeps looking for him and he keeps wandering off, as in Song of Solomon 6:1.

Where has your lover gone,
    O woman of rare beauty?
Which way did he turn
so we can help you find him?

Their descriptions of each other are breathtaking and powerfully erotic. I was about to write that it is amazing to find this in the Bible, but it’s not. The beauty and power of deeply personal love is not foreign to God – it is part of His nature.
