This is not good!

Today’s Reading: Isaiah 12:1-14:32, 2 Corinthians 13:1-14, Psalm 57:1-11, Proverbs 23:9-11

I’m always engaged by the promises of destruction in the Bible for those who rebel against God and his purposes. The writing to Babylon in Isaiah 13 sounds pretty woeful to me:

21 Desert animals will move into the ruined city,
and the houses will be haunted by howling creatures.
Owls will live among the ruins,
and wild goats will go there to dance.

I don’t want to have my house haunted by howling creatures – that’s a nightmare that belongs in a Hollywood script.

Paul’s closing greeting to the Corinthians (13:11) offers a sharp contrast.

Be joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you.

I much prefer being with the God of peace and love than having creatures howling in my haunted house.
