Unbelief

Today’s readings: Ezekiel 1:1-3:15, Hebrews 3:1-19, Psalm 104:1-23, Proverbs 26:24-26

The writer of Hebrews repeatedly refers to the verses from Psalm 95 about not hardening our hearts.

That is why the Holy Spirit says,

“Today when you hear his voice,
    don’t harden your hearts
as Israel did when they rebelled,
when they tested me in the wilderness.
There your ancestors tested and tried my patience,
even though they saw my miracles for forty years.
10 So I was angry with them, and I said,
‘Their hearts always turn away from me.
They refuse to do what I tell them.’
11 So in my anger I took an oath:
‘They will never enter my place of rest.’”

What does this mean? I think it means to resist God when He has provided us with clear instructions on how we are to live and follow Him.

What is the cost? We will never enter His place of rest. How often do I experience restless sleep or anxiety during the day? The next time this happens, I will ask God to reveal to me how I have hardened my heart against Him, repent, and move into His rest.
